Legacy of Hope – Traveling Exhibit

The Greater Vernon Museum and Archives is honoured to partner with School District 22 to bring a Legacy of Hope traveling exhibit to Vernon.

The exhibit is titled "Remembering, Honouring, & The Way Forward: 10 Years After the Residential School Apology." It was created to remember the Survivors who made it out of the schools, to honour those who did not, and to provide all Canadians with a unique opportunity to reflect on what Reconciliation means to them.

Beairsto Anti-Racism Project

As a peaceful protest against the racist propaganda which was distributed around schools in the community in the fall of 2020, École Beairsto and the Vernon Public Art Gallery are excited to present a collaborative social justice project as a way to speak up against hate. Students created 715 self-portraits that form a rainbow mosaic of diversity that highlights the differences that make each one of us special.

BODIES OF WATER is a 2-dimensional installation that uses a series of cyanotypes, an alternative process in photography, that are displayed with multi-channel sound to create a collective audio ambiance in the gallery. The show runs from September 7 to October 2, with an opening reception to be held on September 9th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 4:00pm.

It is a place for artists with lived experience with mental illness to showcase their work and it is a significant opportunity to educate the public about the lives, creativity, and abilities of individuals in our community who are affected by this often-stigmatized illness. Head over to the Vernon Community Arts Centre Friday night for Paint and a Pint and celebrate making art while having a few laughs!  Ideal for beginners, students will learn the basics of acrylic painting, but all levels are welcome. This is the perfect way to spend some time with friends and learn  step-by-step how to to complete an 11×14” painting in one evening. Bring your paint clothes or an apron and have fun!  Participants must be 19 years or older.

Cost: $40 - includes all materials and your beverage
