Casting Off
Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre 3800 - 33rd Street, Vernon, British Columbia, CanadaCasting Off features the incredible talents of Melbourne-based circus company, A Good Catch, which was founded in 2017 with a mission to push the boundaries of circus performance. Their work is characterized by a feminist tone and a proactive approach, redefining the art of devised performance. At the heart of Casting Off are three extraordinary women: Debra Batton (64), Sharon Gruenert (45), and Spenser Inwood (34).
Attendees might be shocked by the vigour with which Debra Batton hurls herself around the stage, but she's found that plenty of audience members have felt energized by her athleticism. “Older women come up to me and say 'I'm so inspired and want to get out there and do more things',” she says, “and you know, even young women are incredibly inspired by it as well,” said Batton.

The Old Vernon Potter
Vernon Community Arts Centre 2704A Highway 6, Vernon, British Columbia, CanadaView works from the late Axel Ebring, in a special exhibit entitled the Old Vernon Potter.
Ebring was born in Kalmar Sweden in 1874, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 12. After years of labouring in farming, prospecting, and mining, he established a pottery studio in Notch Hill, near Salmon Arm, in the 1920's. He later moved his operation to Vernon where he would remain until his passing in 1954. Ebring is one of Canada's pioneer potters, and is known primarily for his functional, wood-fired earthenware including bowls, vases and jugs.
Collections of Ebring's pottery have been preserved by Vernon Museum, Vernon Public Art Gallery, RJ Haney Heritage Museum, and can be found in several private collections. This exhibit showcases works from the private collection of Bob Kingsmill, another very prominent Vernon Potter.
Bob will be presenting the collection in an opening reception Thursday, November 2nd, from 6-8pm. Please join us in celebrating a local legend.
