The Old Vernon Potter
November 1, 2023 @ 12:00 am - November 27, 2023 @ 12:00 am
View works from the late Axel Ebring, in a special exhibit entitled the Old Vernon Potter.
Ebring was born in Kalmar Sweden in 1874, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 12. After years of labouring in farming, prospecting, and mining, he established a pottery studio in Notch Hill, near Salmon Arm, in the 1920’s. He later moved his operation to Vernon where he would remain until his passing in 1954. Ebring is one of Canada’s pioneer potters, and is known primarily for his functional, wood-fired earthenware including bowls, vases and jugs.
Collections of Ebring’s pottery have been preserved by Vernon Museum, Vernon Public Art Gallery, RJ Haney Heritage Museum, and can be found in several private collections. This exhibit showcases works from the private collection of Bob Kingsmill, another very prominent Vernon Potter.
Bob will be presenting the collection in an opening reception Thursday, November 2nd, from 6-8pm. Please join us in celebrating a local legend.
