VPAG Crit Club

Vernon Public Art Gallery 3228 31st Avenue, Vernon, British Columbia, Canada

Crit Club is a workshop and critique program dedicated to supporting high school school students in their artistic pursuits and development.

Each session will begin with a presentation by an established guest artist. Following the presentation, the guest artist will lead a workshop inspired by their practice. After the workshop, students are invited to share their completed or in process artwork(s) with the group for a critique session.

Crit Club members will also have an opportunity to exhibit their artwork at VPAG.

Mozart – who spent many years in Vienna and was an important part of the musical scene there in the 18th century – is in the spotlight with his joyful Symphony No. 29 and Horn Concerto No. 3. James Sommerville, who won a JUNO award for his recording of this concerto, will do double duty as soloist and conductor.

We’re also featuring the OSO Chorus and soprano Irina Medvedeva in selections from Lehar’s The Merry Widow and Johann Strauss Jr.’s Die Fledermaus.

Join us on the last Saturday of each month, Family Saturdays take place with an art project suitable for both little kids and big kids. Parents/guardians are also encouraged to participate and create their own works of art. The workshop begins promptly at 1 p.m., and families are welcome to stay for the whole session, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., or to depart sooner. All materials required for the workshops are provided. To ensure a space, please pre-register online.

RJ Leblanc’s Heyday with Erika Angell

Montreal-based bassist Rémi-Jean LeBlanc’s latest project, HEYDAY, is a group consisting of 5 of Montreal’s most versatile and prolific musicians; Erika Angell on voice, Jérôme Beaulieu on keyboards, Kevin Warren on drums and Nicolas Ferron on guitar, and RJ LeBlanc on bass. The group has a wide range of influences hailing from post-rock to RnB and beyond while tastefully keeping the spirit of jazz as a common thread. It is an eclectic and highly energetic band that mixes finesse and feel-good in a beautiful way.

RJ has been on the Canadian music scene since the mid-2000s performing with jazz artists as diverse as Jean-Michel Pilc and Carol Welsman as well as with iconic rock bands like The Dears. He is on the faculty at McGill University. HEYDAY is his 4th album and most ambitious thus far.
