Pocket Orchestras

The Okanagan Symphony presents a series of Pocket Orchestras over the summer.  Featuring smaller ensembles of  talented musicians, this series of concerts will be presented mainly at outdoor locations throughout the valley, including BX Press Cidery, the Caetani Cultural Centre, Allan Brooks Nature Centre, and 3 backyard concerts in collaboration with Chamber Music Kelowna.  Presenting music from throughout the ages, OSO's Pocket Orchestra concerts are sure to bring a smile to your face, and even a tap of your toes. Travel back in time to when sternwheelers plied the waters of Okanagan Lake with the Okanagan Landing Stationhouse Museum!

This satellite of the Greater Vernon Museum and Archives celebrates the history of the area, and houses an amazing 21'x4' scale model depicting the Okanagan Landing in 1914, when sternwheelers provided the only transportation from Vernon to Penticton.

The museum at Paddlewheel Park is open for the summer Fridays to Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm. Admission is by donation. For off season or out-of-hours guided group tours, please call 250-542-2500.

Gallery Vertigo is proud to present Chromatopia by the Fibre Art Network (FAN), a co-operative of Western Canadian artists committed to promoting fibre as an art form and each other as artists. The exhibit runs from August 10 – September 4, 2021. An open house will be held Saturday, August 14 from noon to 4:00 p.m.  

Chromatopia is inspired by Picasso’s monochromatic works in his blue period. Each artist was challenged to explore their own individual theme through the creation of two monochromatic textile artworks using two assigned colour hues.

Sailing the High C’s

“A deep dive into the world of the coloratura soprano” - with a journey that begins in the opera realm and carries on through English art song, Viennese operetta, standard and contemporary musical theatre, comedic classics, Hebrew folklore and much more. “Sailing the High C’s” will feature selections from The Marriage of Figaro, The Tales of Hoffmann, The Merry Widow, The Enchantress, Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady and Young Frankenstein, to name a few. With songs in English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Yiddish and Hebrew, and compositions from Lehar to Lerner & Loewe and from Mozart to Mel Brooks, this vocal event will be a diverse and memorable musical ride infused with humor and high notes!
