Presented by the Okanagan Screen Arts Society at the Vernon Towne Theatre, the Monday Night at the Arts screening of American Fiction takes place on Feb. 26.

Starring Oscar-nominated actor Jeffrey Wright, Cord Jefferson’s hilarious directorial debut confronts our culture’s obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes.

Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk, a frustrated novelist who’s fed up with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish “Black” book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.

American Fiction will screen at 2:45 and 6:15 p.m. Come early for the second screening and enjoy a drink and the Towne’s Neapolitan-style pizza while listening to the live music in the lobby starting at 5:30 p.m.
