Greater Vernon Museum Speaker Series with David Riach
June 22 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
$10Dr. Riach will explore the life and legacy of Bill McCluskey (1891-1935), one of British Columbia’s most renowned and respected commercial pilots. McCluskey, a Vernon native, played a pivotal role in the development of civil aviation in Vernon and the Okanagan, and made significant contributions to air transportation across the province.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to include Dr. David Riach in our speaker series,” says Archives Manager Gwyneth Evans. “It is wonderful that Bill McCluskey’s legacy is being acknowledged across Canada, but once you start uncovering the intrepid details of his story, it becomes clear why he commands such interest.”
Since Dr. Riach is based in Winnipeg, this session of the speaker series will be held via Zoom. However, there will also be a live screening at the Vernon Museum, allowing participants the choice of attending in person or remotely. Tickets, priced at $10, must be pre-purchased to secure a Zoom connection or in-person seating, and can be obtained online from the following link or at the museum during open hours:
Like the other events in the Hometown Histories Speaker Series, Dr. David Riach’s presentation ensures that the stories of Vernon’s citizens, past and present, are preserved and remembered. Proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the Vernon Museum and the Vernon Branch of the Okanagan Historical Society.
