Gathering of Artists – Monthly Series
October 2, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm$30
A GATHERING OF ARTISTS: Composition Art Lab with Svetlana Shkuratova
Strong composition is vital to the success of a piece of art, whether it’s a drawing, painting, photograph, ceramic vessel or sculpture. A skillful and conscious application of composition is what helps the artist capture the viewer’s eye and hold their attention. A good composition can tell a story or convey a mood.
In this lab, we’ll cover in detail the basic elements of design and how to organize them to create a pleasing visual whole. We will also look into how these elements can evoke certain emotions and reactions from your audience. As rules of composition are universal and can be applied to any form of visual art, there will be plenty of examples covering different forms of art including painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, and fiber art. During the second half of this lab we will discuss how we apply and use composition in our own art practice and share some tips and tricks from our own process.

“A Gathering of Artists” is a monthly professional development and peer support program for all levels of artists. Facilitated by varying instructors and artists, each month’s session will focus on a new topic. Our intention is to provide artists with an opportunity to gather in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere to learn and benefit from one another’s lived experiences and expertise. Some workshops will be project based while others will focus on more of a sharing environment, with sessions being offered on the first Friday of each month. Workshop costs for members will vary between $15 and $45 depending on the facilitator, type of workshop and materials. A glass of wine (or other beverage) and light snacks will be included in the price. Stay tuned to find out upcoming session topics. If you are interested in facilitating a session or have ideas on what topics you would like to see offered, please contact Gale Woodhouse at [email protected].
