One of Gallery Vertigo’s goals is to support the development of artists at the beginning of their career. This also includes encouraging our local students interested in pursuing a career in the arts by providing opportunity for exhibiting their work. One such student, Amy Bugera, is displaying her art this month in preparation for applying for scholarship and entry to the University of British Columbia Okanagan Fine Arts Department. She is currently a student at Kalamalka Senior Secondary School in Vernon, BC. Ms Bugera was born and grew up in Saskatchewan but moved with her family to British Columbia when she was 11 years old, making her home in Vernon, BC. Her interest in the arts started when she began painting 3 years ago as a hobby. At the time she painted as realistically as possible thinking it was what people liked to see. However, her first original piece Sorrow in Sunshine, was inspired by surrealism. She has found her voice in this style and has been developing it. Her exhibit will be on display till January 30, 2021 with an open house on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from noon to 4:00 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 12 noon to 4:00 p.m.

About her exhibit, Amy has this to say:
“These pieces have a wide array of different themes, all correlating to emotions and how they can be expressed. Some of these paintings were completed years ago, others more recently. Most of my work has personal meaning; however I invite you to pull your own interpretations from it. I mainly focus my art around surrealism inspired by my internal experiences.”
