Okanagan Symphony: Rachmaninoff & Glazunov
February 9 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
$24 – $73.50
Romantic grandeur meets Parisian elegance when candidate conductor Grant Harville and guest saxophonist Allen Harrington join the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra for its next performance on Feb. 9 at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre.
Harrington will perform Glazunov’s Saxophone Concerto (Concerto in E-flat for Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra, op.109), which dates back to the composer’s time in Paris. Also on the programme are Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, Debussy’s Petite Suite, Scott Joplin’s Paragon Rag and Maple Leaf Rag and Nathaniel Dett’s Cave of the Winds.
Harrington teaches saxophone, bassoon, and chamber music as an associate professor at the University of Manitoba’s Desautels Faculty of Music.
Maintaining a busy schedule outside of his university teaching career, Harrington is an active soloist, recitalist, adjudicator, orchestral and chamber musician. He has appeared as a soloist with more than a dozen orchestras in Canada, Europe, and South America.
Heard frequently on CBC Radio, he has given countless recitals across Canada and toured with organizations such as Debut Atlantic, Prairie Debut, and Home Routes Classical.
