Where do the things in the collection of your local museum come from? Who donated, collected or purchased the artefacts - and were they all acquired in ethical ways? Who decides what is ethical, what is true, what is real, & what is history? Whose stories are told & whose are silenced or ignored? We’ll explore some of these questions by looking at artefacts from the Vernon Museum Collection. Over the course of the evening, you'll be invited to engage in conversations about the mysteries and mistruths of artefact collecting, and you’ll also be invited to play a rousing round of Artefact or Artefiction!

Alex Cuba performs Saturday, October 16th at 5:30pm and 8pm. His “sugarcane-sweet melodies, pop-soul hooks and powerful guitar riffs, relinquish a conventional stereotype that exemplifies much of the Latin music landscape”. Though raised in Artemisa, an hour outside of Havana, Alex Cuba’s artistry is as far-flung as the place he has settled and lived for over fifteen years: Smithers, BC. His music at once incorporates his roots and is a unique amalgam of styles, having collaborated with artists ranging from Jason Mraz to Ron Sexsmith and Nelly Furtado; and bringing together melodies, pop soul hooks and rock chords in songs that may seem to bear little resemblance to traditional Cuban form. On Friday, October 22nd, 2021, the Vernon Public Art Gallery will be hosting their annual Art After Dark event - a soiree-style party designed to cultivate those looking for a unique night on the town. This year, musicians Andrew Judah, Oakmoss (James Balehowsky), Chloe Davidson, and Sean Waters will be performing. The Sounds Suspicious exhibition: The Intersection of Art and Music will be on display in the Gallery as well.
Tickets are available online at www.vernonpublicartgallery.com/art-after-dark. Admission is $25 per person.
