Join Vernon Museum Education Coordinator Gabriel Newman as he walks you through downtown Vernon sharing anecdotes and history that inspired Vernon’s outdoor art gallery. From murals depicting the world wars, to the beautiful pottery of Axel Ebring, the Okanagan Indian Band, cowboys and multiculturalism, over 28 different murals are found in the downtown core. These works of art created by a collaboration of artists depict the history, culture, scenery, and folklore that have made Vernon what it is today.

Tours leave from the steps of the Greater Vernon Museum & Archives (GVMA), 3009-32nd Ave., Tuesdays and Fridays at 9am, June 1st to September 28th. Limited to 20 per tour. Tickets can be purchased in advance at https://www.eventbrite.ca or at the door for $5.00 cash only please.

Artist Talk with Jennifer Dyck @ Vernon Public Art Gallery

Jennifer Dyck’s series of collage works makes visual commentary about some prominent subject matter found in historic religious art. The artist’s studio practice linked to Dada and Surrealist movements make the interpretation of religious imagery juxtaposed by the contemporary perception of religious subjects and their alternate meaning. Meet Jennifer and engage in great art discussion. Admission by donation.

Family Saturday @ Vernon Public Art Gallery

Family Saturday takes place on the last Saturday of each month with an art project suitable for little kids and big kids alike, at a minimal cost to participants. The workshop begins with instruction and a project demonstration and then we let the creativity flow! Parents are also encouraged to participate. The cost is $5 for members, $7 for non-members. Pre-registration is recommended.

Riot on the Roof @ Vernon Public Art Gallery

The Vernon Public Art Gallery presents the 10th Annual Riot on the Roof! The Downtown Vernon Parkade will be transformed into an alternative art party with live music, performance, comedy, installation art, and dance. Each Parkade level hosts an array of talent, showcasing art in all its forms. We have an incredible line up of artists for this year, including students and professors from UBC Okanagan’s Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, Andrew Judah, Squids, Exits, Cody Rueger, Kailee McGuire, Saint Wellesly, Randy Jerni, and many more. Summer Music Series featuring Sister Speak @ Caetani Cultural Centre

Canadian born and now BC and Los Angeles-residing Sherri Anne is at the core of Sister Speak, an indie-pop and rock/blues/world music entity that creates uplifting, inspiring music. Whether performing an electrifying full band show, or a stripped down set of heartfelt originals, this Taylor Guitar’s sponsored artist has connected with a diverse fan-base throughout the globe.

The show begins at 2:00 pm RAIN OR SHINE and a selection of refreshments will be available for purchase. Admission is by donation ($10.00 recommended donation for adults, $5.00 for Caetani members and kids). Memberships will be available for purchase at the event. Proceeds go directly to the artists and toward programs and events at the Centre. Parking is not available at the Caetani Centre during events and patrons are asked to park off site in approved parking zones. Please respect our neighbours by not blocking driveways.
